Zelda Books FAQ

What is the best Zelda book to start with?
For most people, Hyrule Historia is the single best starting point — it covers the timeline, concept art, and developer interviews in one hardcover. If you prefer manga, start with Ocarina of Time. If you want a playthrough companion, pick the Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom strategy guide.
Is there a Zelda novel?
There's no official Zelda novel from Nintendo. Saga of the Sages is the standout unofficial novel set in the Breath of the Wild era. For Zelda-adjacent fantasy novels we recommend to fans of the games, see our novels collection.
Are Zelda strategy guides still useful?
Yes — the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom official guides remain genuinely practical for tracking shrines, Koroks, and side quests. Older titles' guides are mostly out of print and have been replaced by community wikis. Buy the guide if you want a physical companion on the couch, not for information you can't get online.
