Akira Himekawa’s manga adaptation of Ocarina of Time is many fans’ first introduction to Zelda in book form, and for good reason. It captures the heart of the game’s story while adding emotional depth that the N64 original could only hint at.
The Legendary Edition collects both original volumes into a single, oversized book with bonus content including extra stories and author commentary. Link’s journey from forest kid to Hero of Time is given real emotional weight: his friendship with Saria, his rivalry with Dark Link, and the bittersweet ending hit harder on the page than they do in pixels.
For parents: This is an excellent gateway into reading for reluctant readers. The manga format is visually engaging, the story is genuinely moving, and at 360 pages it’s a substantial read. The themes (growing up, leaving home, accepting responsibility) are universal.
For kids and teens: If you’ve played Ocarina of Time, this manga makes it even better. If you haven’t played it, this is a perfect way to experience the story. Link actually talks in this version, which changes everything.
